The NSW State of Origin squad faces an enormous challenge in 2011 in facing the Queensland Maroons State of Origin side after the Queensland squad have won the last 5 series in a row. The NSW Blues State of Origin squad will be tremendously strengthened in 2011 with the addition of Dally M medal winner Todd Carney likely to be included in the squad and the possible inclusion of the Dragons star Mark Gasnier for the State of Origin series.

The NSW Blues will play two away games against the Queensland State of Origin team at Suncorp stadium in Brisbane. The NSW Blues State of Origin will be desparate to win the series and restore some much needed pride to the NSW Blues. The series wins for New Souths Wales and Queensland State of Origin  series have been remarkably close prior to the last 5 years of domination from Queensland.

In 2011 a full time coach has been appointed to the squad in former Cronulla and Roosters coach Rickey Stewart. The NSW State of Origin squad has implemented the same structure as Queensland in 2011 as opposed to a Club coach in Craig Bellamy allowing complete focus on the NSW Blues State of Origin series.
